Textual Analysis Scream

Mise en scene
The scene starts off with the shot of the house which is in the woods surrounded by nothing but a swing and it looks like the swing outside the house has just been used signifying someone is stalking. Inside the house there is a blonde women with red lipstick signifying that she could be a damsel in distress which is a common stereotype, she then goes to the kitchen and starts playing with knives signifying there is going to be some sort of death and puts popcorn on which represents the tension in the scene because as the popcorn gets louder things get worse. She then also lies and says she has a jock boyfriend who will beat up the person who is stalking her which is a key symbol of a typical damsel in distress there is always a 'hero'.

Camera angles and movement
The establishment shot at the of the movie is of the house in the woods and the moving swing and these are key conventions of a horror isolation and unknown movements. further on in the opening there is a tracking shot of the women in the house locking all the doors so its as if someone is following her and this is when the audience start to get worried for her.

Editing
The title looks cut up symbolising that is going to happen to someone in the film also a dog barks outside to signify someone is outside but the women is still oblivious to the situation and finally as the popcorn rises the tension rises

Sound
There were diegetic sounds of the knives which puts it out there for us that these knives will come into play in the film as the knives sounds were exaggerated, the phone ringing was also an exaggerated sound to symbolise that something would happen to do with the phone and it did a women was stalked over the phone.
